Par 20
from Family
Fun
This card game
is good for
kids about 3rd grade and up.
Remove
jacks and kings from the deck of cards.
Deal 5 cards to each player and place the rest of the deck face
down as
a draw pile. Starting left of the
dealer, players try to make a mathematical equation totaling 20 from
any 3 of
their 5 cards. (aces = 1 and queens =
0.) If you have, say, a 6, 3, 7, 8, and
2, one answer would be 6 x 3 + 2 = 20.
If you can’t make an equation that totals exactly 20, your
score for
that round is the difference – higher or lower – between
your score and
20. An equation that totals 18 or 22,
for example, is scored 2. After laying
down your cards, write down your equation and score, then draw 3 new
cards. Play 5 rounds; whoever has the
lowest score wins. Tip:
for multiage play, require older kids to use
multiplication or division in their equations.
